So long, Jalabert
The nom de plume I use for my slash writing was borrowed from the beautiful, gregarious ball of fluff shown in the icon to the left. He was the original Jalabert in my household, named after Laurent Jalabert, the great French bicycling champion who was leading the points race in the 1992 Tour de France at the time I adopted him. Had I opted for the eventual points champion he would have been named after Djamolidine Abdoujaparov. His vets had enough trouble pronouncing a French name; an Uzbekistani name would have been a real giggle.

Jalabert was a black Maine Coon with a white locket on his chest, enormous furry feet and two passions: eating freshly-cooked broccoli and waking me up before 5:30 in the morning. Jolly (as he was more familiarly known) was fearless, adventurous and sociable, retaining the boundless energy and enthusiasm of a two-year old until the end of his life. We shared a home together for more than fifteen years, until he lost a brief struggle with cancer and was euthanized on March 12th. He was a larger than life cat with a huge heart and I will never forget him.

Oh, Jalabert. :( This has been such a sad thing. I only got to meet him the once but he was such a wonderful guy -- so sweet and lovable and loving. I find comfort in knowing that he had a happy life with you, safe and loved and pampered. Maine Coons are the most perfect cats I've met; he'll be sorely missed. Wish I were there to hug you, hon but until I am the virtual kind will have to make do... *HUGS*

I'm so sorry. Losing such a long time companion is hard. I never met him, but Main Coons are great cats, and it sounds like yuour Jalabert was special, even for the breed. *hugs*

(and also, oops, French? One of my favorite authors, and I've been mispronouncing your name this whole time...)

I'm so sorry to hear that. It's never easy when a beloved pet dies. My condolences.

My sympathies

Your baby looks like mine who at 17 and was deaf I accidentally ran over with my car and killed--oh the guilt and anguish that brought. Though it was sudden and nothing like battling cancer I understand your loss to a degree. Much love and understanding from a big fan.

I am sorry to hear that Jolly lost his battle with cancer. It's always heartbreaking to lose someone we care about. I have to admit that I freaked when I saw the entry title. I thought that you were leaving the fandom or something along those lines.

I hope that you're doing a wee bit better, now that a few days have passed. *hugs*
