I loved this part of "Trial and Error." I thought it was a perfect balance of uncertainty, reconciliation, learning, love and all kinds of wonderful things.
Mr. Danforth was incredible in this! So much love for both him wondering how much more incomprehensible Chad's gay rights "bitching" would get in college (and I totally get that: my friends complain I do the same thing Chad apparently did much too often!) and for sticking up Chad and Ryan so fiercely with Dr. Franklin.
The staff at Earline's was too adorable, as were, (gasp!) Troy and Gabriella.

One thing I was wondering was the gossip at East High about Chad, because if the high schoolers there are anything like high schoolers (or even college students) I know, there WOULD be gossip: popular basketball player who doesn't have a girlfriend, didn't attend prom for some inexplicable reason, is close friends with an openly gay guy (that point alone would have led to rumors!), the gay friend doesn't come to school when Chad is out hospitalized... can you say field day for rumors? I wonder what that is like, and if we'll get more glimpses of their school in your universe, even though there's only a week left till graduation.

I meant this story to be one with a lot of twists and turns. It has surprised me, too, with some of the things that come up. This chapter was all about showing Ryan that he was surrounded by people who valued him and had his back. The bit with Chad's parents was thrown in because I periodically feel the need to remind people that my Chad is both pretty and smart. ;)

As for your rumor issue: I don't think that anyone would necessarily draw a connection between Ryan being absent on the same day Chad is in the hospital. It'd be easy enough to explain it away as a coincidence. But sure, there could be rumors. I think the more difficult thing would be explaining why Ryan's always at Chad's house, which is why in my story, anyway, Chad lives near Kelsi and Gabriella and not the other Wildcats. In fact, in my mind, Chad doesn't live that close to Troy. Chad's family, along with Kelsi's and Gabriella's, live in a slightly more upscale neighborhood. The rest of the Wildcats live closer to Troy.

Nonetheless, I could point out how the boys have been careful. I could point out how openly befriending Ryan was justifiable when Troy was being a dick every other month/day/week. I could talk about how Taylor, Gabriella, Sharpay and Troy actively shield them from suspicion. But instead, Ill just tell you to read the next chapter. ;)
